The Water Turbidity Sensor is an electronic sensor designed to measure the cloudiness or turbidity of water by detecting suspended particles such as dirt, silt, algae, or organic matter. It works on an optical sensing principle, making it ideal for water quality monitoring, environmental analysis, and IoT-based smart water systems.

This sensor is widely used with Arduino, ESP8266/ESP32, Raspberry Pi (via ADC), and other microcontroller platforms.

Working Principle

The sensor uses an infrared LED and phototransistor:

1. The IR LED emits light through the water sample.

2. Suspended particles scatter the light depending on water clarity.

3. The phototransistor receives the scattered/reflected light.

4. The sensor converts this into an analog voltage proportional to turbidity.

• Clear water → Higher voltage

• Turbid water → Lower voltage
